The FTCE Speech-Language Impaired K-12 Exam tests your knowledge and skills in five core competencies, each having between two and six skill areas. Core competencies are defined as areas of content knowledge, and skills are the behaviors that demonstrate those competencies. Together, these competencies and skills represent the knowledge areas that content specialists have determined are important for beginning teachers.
You will need to demonstrate knowledge in the following competencies: (1) basic communication processes; (2) the assessment process for students served in the school population; (3) intervention techniques for students served in the school population; (4) professional and legal issues; and (5) research and theory.
Each competency is assigned a percentage that represents the proportion of test items in that content area compared to the total number of items on the test. The FTCE Speech-Language Impaired K-12 Exam comprises approximately 120 multiple-choice questions, each with four answer options (A, B, C, or D). Question formats include direct questions, commands, sentence completion, data analysis, and scenarios.
When you arrive at the exam, you will receive a test booklet and a separate answer sheet for bubbling in your responses to the questions.
