The FTCE Social Science 6-12 Exam comprises approximately 120 multiple-choice questions across six core competencies, each with between four and 15 skill areas.
Competencies are defined as areas of content knowledge, and skills are the behaviors that demonstrate these competencies. Together, the competencies and skills represent the knowledge that content specialists have determined are important for beginning social science teachers.
The FTCE Social Science 6-12 Exam requires you to demonstrate knowledge in the following core competencies: (1) geography; (2) economics; (3) political science; (4) world history; (5) American history; and (6) social science and its methodology.
Each competency is also assigned a percentage that represents the approximate proportion of test items in that content area on the test. Question formats on the exam include direct questions; commands; sentence completion; charts, graphs, and maps; and scenarios. Each question has four response options (A, B, C, or D).
You will receive a test booklet with a separate answer sheet. You have 2.5 hours to complete this exam. Because the number of questions and correct answers needed to pass the examination may vary from one form of the test to another, the Florida Department of Education provides only general guidelines about how many questions you must answer correctly in order to pass.
Your score will be available between two weeks and 30 days after the test date.
