The FTCE Preschool Education Exam (Birth-Age 4) encompasses ten core competencies, or content knowledge areas. Each competency includes between 3 and 15 skill areas. Together, these competencies and skills require you to demonstrate the knowledge areas that content specialists have determined are important for beginning preschool teachers.
Each competency is also assigned a percentage representing the approximate proportion of test items in that content area on the test. The FTCE Preschool Education Exam comprises approximately 120 multiple-choice questions, in the following formats: direct questions, sentence completion, commands, data analysis, and scenarios. Each question has four response options (A, B, C, or D).
When you arrive at the exam, you will receive a test booklet and a separate answer sheet for bubbling in your responses.
