The FTCE Prekindergarten-Primary PK-3 Exam requires you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in nine different core competencies. Each core competency, or content knowledge area, has between two and 20 skill areas. These skills are defined as the behaviors that demonstrate the core competencies. Content specialists have determined that these content knowledge areas and skills are important for beginning Prekindergarten-Primary PK-3 teachers.
The nine core competencies are: (1) knowledge of child growth and development; (2) foundations; (3) research, standards, and trends; (4) effective practices; (5) issues and strategies for family and community involvement; (6) developmentally appropriate curricula; (7) the diverse needs of all children and their families; (8) diagnosis, assessment, and evaluation; and (9) child guidance and classroom behavioral management.
Each competency is also assigned a percentage representing the approximate proportion of test items in that content area compared to the total number of items on the exam. The FTCE Prekindergarten-Primary PK-3 Exam comprises approximately 120 multiple-choice questions, each with four answer options (A, B, C, or D). Question formats include direct questions, commands, sentence completion, and scenarios.
You will receive a test booklet and a separate answer sheet for bubbling in your response to each question.
