FTCE Middle Grades Social Science Test

The FTCE Middle Grades Social Science 5-12 Exam tests knowledge and skills in five core competencies. Each competency, or area of content knowledge, has between six and 11 skill areas. The skill areas give you the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge that content specialists have determined is important for beginning teachers of social science.

You will need to demonstrate knowledge in each of the following core competencies: (1) history, (2) geography, (3) civics and government, (4) economics, and (5) social science curriculum and instruction.

Each competency is also assigned a percentage representing the approximate proportion of test items in that content area on the test. The FTCE Middle Grades Social Science 5-12 Exam has approximately 120 multiple-choice questions, each with four response options (A, B, C, or D). Question formats include direct questions; commands; sentence completion; charts, graphs, and maps; and scenarios.

You will receive a test booklet and a separate answer sheet. You will have 2.5 hours to complete the FTCE Middle Grades Social Science 5-12 Exam. As the number of questions and correct answers needed to pass may vary between test forms, the Florida Department of Education provides only general guidelines about how many you need to answer correctly in order to pass.

Your score will be available between two weeks and 30 days after the test date.
