The FTCE Mathematics 6-12 Exam comprises approximately 80 multiple-choice questions across 15 core competencies. Each core competency, or area of knowledge, tests between two and 24 skill areas. Content specialists have determined that the following core competencies represent the knowledge and skills that beginning mathematics teachers need to demonstrate:
Each of the above core competencies is assigned a percentage that reflects the approximate proportion of test items in that content area on the exam. Question formats include graphics, direct questions, commands, selections, sentence completion, word problems, proofs, and scenarios. Each question has four answer options (A, B, C, or D). You will receive a test booklet with a separate answer sheet, on which to bubble in your response to each question.
You will have approximately 2.5 hours to complete the FTCE Mathematics 6-12 Exam. As the number of questions and number of correct answers needed to pass may vary slightly between test forms, the Florida Department of Education provides only general guidelines about how many questions you must answer correctly. Scores will be available between two weeks and 30 days after the test date.
