FTCE Exceptional Student Education K-12 Test

The FTCE Exceptional Student Education K-12 Exam will assess your content knowledge and skills in seven core competencies. Each core competency contains between three and eight skill areas. Content specialists have determined that beginning teachers must demonstrate acceptable knowledge and skills in these areas.

To pass the exam, you must demonstrate knowledge in each of the following competencies: (1) foundations of exceptional student education; (2) assessment and evaluation; (3) instructional practices in exceptional student education; (4) assessing, designing, and implementing positive behavioral supports; (5) language development and communication skills; (6) skills related to teaching interpersonal interactions and participation; and (7) the transition process.

Each competency on the exam is assigned a percentage for scoring purposes. This percentage represents the approximate proportion of competency test items in that content area compared to the overall total number of items on the test.

The FTCE Exceptional Student Education K-12 Exam comprises approximately 120 multiple-choice questions. The format of this subject examination includes the following question types: direct questions, commands, sentence completion, data analyses, and scenarios. Each question will have four possible response options (A, B, C, or D). You will receive a test booklet with a separate bubble answer sheet.
