FTCE Educational Media Specialist PK-12 Test
To pass the FTCE Educational Media Specialist PK-12 Exam, you must demonstrate knowledge and skills across multiple core competencies. Each competency contains between two and nine skill areas. Content specialists have determined these to be representative of knowledge that is important for beginning educational media specialists.
You will answer questions about the following competencies:
- Professional organizations, resources, and national and state guidelines and standards for the library media specialist
- Teaching and learning principles of the school library media specialist
- Methods for teaching students information literacy
- Methods for teaching and assisting the school learning community in design and production of various types of media
- Design and delivery of staff development
- Information specialist responsibilities of the school library media specialist
- Resources in all formats for the learning community
- Foundations, designing, planning, and development of a school library media program
- Procedures to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of a school library media program
- Skills required to plan, prepare, advocate, and administer a budget
- Supervision of staff and volunteers for the school library media program
- Policies and procedures used in the school library media program
- Methods for creating an active learning environment
- Methods for advocating an effective school library media program
- Policies and procedures for collection development; policies and processes for managing, cataloging, organizing, circulating, and maintaining resources
- Comprehension of leadership and interpersonal skills for the school library media specialist
Each competency on the exam is assigned a percentage for scoring purposes. This percentage represents the approximate proportion of competency test items in that content area compared to the overall total number of items on the test.
The FTCE Educational Media Specialist PK-12 Exam comprises approximately 120 multiple-choice questions. The format of this subject examination includes the following question types: direct questions, sentence completion, commands, data analyses, and scenarios. Each question will have four possible response options (A, B, C, or D). You will receive a test booklet and a separate answer sheet, on which to bubble in your responses to the questions.
