The FTCE Earth-Space Science 6-12 Exam tests knowledge and skills in several core competencies. Core competencies are content knowledge areas, and skills are the behaviors that demonstrate this knowledge. These competencies and skills are representative of the knowledge expected of beginning Earth-Space Science teachers. Each competency on the exam is assigned a percentage for scoring purposes. This percentage represents the approximate proportion of competency test items in that content area compared to the overall total number of items on the examination.
To pass the test, you will need to answer questions in the following core competencies: (1) science; (2) composition, characteristics, and structure of the Earth; (3) dynamics of the Earth's lithosphere and asthenosphere; (4) Earth's surface processes; (5) interpretation of maps and imagery; (6) geologic history; (7) Earth's resources; (8) chemistry, physics, and biology of the ocean; (9) coastal ocean; (10) composition and dynamics of the atmosphere; (11) Earth's climatic and weather patterns; (12) meteorological observations; (13) meteorology and climatology of Florida; and (14) space exploration.
The FTCE Earth-Space Science 6-12 Exam comprises approximately 120 multiple-choice questions. The format of this subject examination includes the following question types: direct questions, commands, sentence completion, graphics, and scenarios. Each question will have four possible response options. You will receive a test booklet with a separate answer sheet, on which to bubble in the correct multiple-choice response (A, B, C, or D).
