FTCE Certification

Certification by FTCE Test

The Department of Education's Bureau of Educator Certification reviews FTCE certification testing requirements for all candidates. Anyone who has completed and submitted an application for certification will be notified by the Bureau regarding what tests you will need to successfully pass in order to receive certification. An Official Statement of Status of Eligibility will be sent. For this reason, it is advisable for all applicants interested in teaching in Florida public schools wait to undergo certification tests until they've submitted their applications and gotten a response from the Bureau. Candidates will be given 40 minutes each to complete the English Language Skills and Reading subsets of the General Knowledge Test area. Fifty minutes are allotted to the Essay subtest. The Mathematics test is given an hour and forty minutes.

All Subject Area tests given for FTCE certification are allotted two hours and thirty minutes, with the exception of Elementary Education K - 6. This test is given over two sessions and lasts for a total of four hours and twenty minutes.

The Professional Education test is also given two and a half hours to complete. Candidates for the Florida Educational Leadership Examination will be given two hours for Subtests 1 and 2: Instructional Leadership and Operational Leadership. The third subtest for FTCE certification, School Leadership, is allotted two and a half hours in total.
