Biology teachers in middle and high school must pass the FTCE Biology 6-12 Exam, which tests knowledge and skills in various biology competencies. Each competency assesses between four and 17 skill areas, which demonstrate the knowledge expected of biology teachers. These core competencies have been evaluated by content specialists to ensure that they include the knowledge and skills expected of beginning biology instructors.
Each core competency receives a score percentage that reflects the proportion of test items within that area compared to the total number of items on the exam. The FTCE Biology 6-12 Exam comprises approximately 120 multiple-choice questions. Question formats include direct questions, commands, sentence completion, and scenarios. Each question will have four possible response options (A, B, C, or D). You will receive a test booklet with a separate answer sheet, on which to bubble in the correct response for each question.
